2. Please tell me about the current operation? Owners of 85 Supermarkets, C Stores, CTNs & Newsagents stores within the group and we offer 2 different trading formats:
• Newsagency – These include a basic range of grocery as well as fresh & chilled products; but will focus mainly on confectionery, newspaper & magazines, tobacco, greeting cards, stationary and services such as sub post office, national lottery, e top up, paypoint and either an external or internal cash machine.
• Convenience Stores – These stores offer a full range of fresh & chilled products as well as ambient grocery, non food, alcohol, and all of the newsagency lines and services mentioned above.
In 2003 Mills group employed London design consultants firm called CDW associates who put together a new corporate look for Mills convenience stores; featuring white shop fronts, green facia with the red, white & blue of Mills corporate colours featuring on the top right of each store.
The idea was to make the stores look clean, bright and modern and change the perception of our customers from the store being a newsagency business to that which offers fresh & chilled produce as well as other every day basic foods needs.
Mills developed 3 concept stores in 2004, being Carlisle, Sunderland, and Brunswick Village.
Over the next 3 years we fine tuned these models in terms of range, internal design, pricing structures etc and in 2007 it was decided to roll out this model into 28 further stores.
The CTN's were refitted in 2006 by adding open deck chillers to feature soft drinks, 'Grab & Go', basic fresh & chilled essentials as well as some ambient grocery and non food. |
